Punjab’s Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Azma Bukhari, has unveiled ambitious plans to launch Air Punjab, the province’s first airline, and a high-speed bullet train service.
The initiatives aim to revolutionise transportation and position Punjab as a leader in development among Pakistan’s provinces.
At a press conference, Bukhari announced that Air Punjab will begin operations within eight to twelve months, starting with four leased aircraft. She also revealed a collaboration with Pakistan Railways to introduce a bullet train, alongside high-speed trains serving six new routes across Punjab. The railway system will be revamped, potentially featuring glass trains for modern travel.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz had previously hinted at establishing a provincial airline, and Bukhari expressed confidence that these projects will elevate Punjab’s infrastructure within five years. “Punjab will be the first province to operate its airline,” she said, highlighting the region’s commitment to innovation.
In a related development, a new private airline, Air Karachi, applied for a Regular Public Transport license from the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority in February 2025. Pending federal approval, Air Karachi, already registered with Pakistan’s Securities and Exchange Commission, aims to launch flights nationwide.
