The Legend of Maula Jatt will be the first Pakistani film released in India in over a decade.
The release of The Legend of Maula Jatt in India marks a cultural breakthrough in the strained relations between India and Pakistan.
The film will be released in Indian Punjab and select theatres in Delhi, stated Rajender Singh Jyala, chief programming officer of INOX Leisure, an Indian multiplex company.
Al Jazeera News reached out to Jyala for comment, Jyala said.”It will be shown in Punjab and a few INOX theatres in Delhi where Punjabi speakers live.”
Earlier, PVR Cinemas announced the movie’s release online before removing it. Uncertain if the video will still be shown, but the incident highlighted the political risks Indian companies and individuals face when working with Pakistanis.
The Legend of Maula Jatt, released worldwide in October, has gathered more than $10m at the box office.
The 150-minute film revolves around family feuds, revenge, and honor and stars Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan. Both actors return to Indian film with The Legend of Maula Jatt after five years.
Indian far-right parties have pledged to protest if the video is released. MNS leader Ameya Khopkar warned in December that his party will not allow the film to be screened in India.
