Morocco head coach Walid Regragui has confirmed that captain Achraf Hakimi is fit and available to face Zambia in their final group-stage match at the Africa Cup of Nations on Monday.
Hakimi, who was named Africa’s best player at the Confederation of African Football awards last month, raised fitness concerns after appearing at the ceremony in Rabat on crutches. The sight sparked doubts over whether the Paris Saint-Germain defender would recover in time for the tournament.
Although the Paris Saint-Germain right-back said he felt ready on the eve of the competition, Morocco did not include him in their first two matches. The hosts opened their campaign with a 2-0 win over Comoros before settling for a 1-1 draw against Mali.

Speaking on Sunday, Regragui confirmed that Hakimi is now fully available for selection. He also praised PSG for their cooperation during the player’s recovery and for allowing him to join the national squad earlier than required.
“I want to thank Paris Saint-Germain,” Regragui said. “If Hakimi is back with us today, it is because of their support. Very few clubs would release a player 15 days before the Africa Cup of Nations.”

Morocco enter the match knowing that a victory over Zambia would secure top spot in the group. The Atlas Lions are aiming to build momentum as they chase their first AFCON title since lifting the trophy in 1976.
With Hakimi back in contention, Morocco hope his return will strengthen their push for continental success and provide a timely boost ahead of the knockout stages.
