New York: Ace Frehley, the original lead guitarist and founding member of KISS, has died at the age of 74. His family confirmed his passing weeks after he suffered a fall at his home.
In a statement to Rolling Stone, the family said:
“In his last moments, we were fortunate enough to surround him with love, peace, and prayers. We cherish his laughter and celebrate his strength, generosity, and the magic he brought to everyone around him. The magnitude of his passing is beyond comprehension. Ace’s memory will live on forever.”
Born Paul Daniel Frehley, the guitarist co-founded KISS in 1973. Known for his “Spaceman” persona, Frehley helped shape the band’s signature sound with hits such as Shock Me and Detroit Rock City.
He left the band in the early 1980s to pursue a solo career but rejoined for KISS’s 1996 reunion tour, one of the highest-grossing tours of the decade. Frehley continued performing with the group until 2002, earning global acclaim for his explosive guitar solos and unique style

However, ongoing health issues forced him to cancel the remainder of his 2025 tour earlier this month. Following news of his death, tributes poured in from across the rock community.
Tom Morello of Rage Against the Machine wrote on Instagram:
“The legendary Space Ace Frehley inspired generations to love rock ’n’ roll and guitar playing. His timeless riffs, the smoke from his Les Paul, and that unforgettable spacey swagger — they’ll never fade. Thank you, Ace, for a lifetime of great music and memories.”
Gene Simmons, Frehley’s former KISS bandmate, also shared his grief:
“Heartbroken. A true original. We shared the stage, the chaos, and the magic. Rest in peace, Ace.”
Fans worldwide continue to celebrate his contribution to rock music, remembering him not only for his sound but for the energy and personality he brought to every performance.
