Abbottabad police have detailed a gold-theft motive in the kidnapping and murder of Dr Warda, a medical officer at the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital. District Police Officer Haroon ur Rasheed stated the doctor was abducted outside the facility and killed approximately one hour later.
Sources indicate that the case concerns 67 tolas of gold she had entrusted to a friend for safekeeping. The Medical Superintendent of DHQ Hospital confirmed the post-mortem examination is complete, with the official report due for release soon.
Dr Warda served at the DHQ Hospital while her husband lived abroad. She resided at home with her children. The DPO confirmed her abduction on December 4 and the recovery of her body four days later.
Investigative sources reveal a troubling sequence. As Dr Warda prepared for a trip abroad, she worried about securing her gold. A female friend, Rida Jadoon, allegedly gained her trust. Jadoon persuaded Dr Warda to deposit the 67 tolas of gold with her as “amanat” (safekeeping). Police later discovered the gold had already been pawned elsewhere for Rs5 million.

Police have arrested three suspects so far. The prime suspect is Rida Jadoon. Her employee, Nadeem, and Nadeem’s relative, Pervaiz, are also in custody. A key suspect, Shamraiz (Nadeem’s uncle), remains at large. Raids are ongoing in Peshawar and other locations to apprehend him.
DPO Rasheed outlined the crime at a press conference. The suspects first took Dr Warda to an under-construction house in Jinnahabad. They strangled her to death within an hour of abduction. They then transported and buried her body near Thandiani. Police have seized both vehicles used in the crime.
The suspects leveraged Dr Warda’s trust on the day of the murder. They coerced her into writing cheques, which they later presented at a bank. The cheques bounced, as her killers had already murdered her.
The three arrested suspects now face proceedings in an Anti-Terrorism Court. The court granted investigators a three-day physical remand, a shorter period than the requested 15 days. Police have also named Rida Jadoon’s husband, Waheed, in the case as investigations continue.
