A 14-year-old boy in Pune, India, was arrested by police after proposing to a 13-year-old classmate on social media.
Local Indian media reported that police in Hadapsar arrested the eighth-grade student who took photographs of the girl and compiled them into a social media video. He posted the compilation to social media and proposed to the girl.
Authorities told the media that the teen threatened the girl with “dire consequences” if she refused to befriend him.
When the girl discovered the video, she informed her parents, who filed a report with the local police department. The parents became concerned when the minor asked the girl to be his wife and posted photos of her without permission.
The senior police inspector at the Hadapsar police station, Arvind Gokule, stated that the teenagers’ school was administering exams. Gokule stated that the boy’s parents had been notified and that action would be taken following the conclusion of the exams.
According to Hindustan Times, he said, “We’ve notified the boy’s parents and asked them to report to the station after his exams.”
“We will then present them to the child welfare committee, and they will take the appropriate action,” the official added.
The occurrence took place on November 17. The complaint was filed by the parents on November 21.
