A man attempted suicide by jumping from an upper floor of the Grand Mosque in Makkah, as stated by Khaleej Times on Wednesday.
Saudi security officials also reported that the individual’s identity remains undisclosed; however, he was transported to a hospital where he received essential medical treatment.
The Special Force responsible for the security of the Grand Mosque initiated an investigation into the matter.
On X, the authority announced that “the necessary procedures were completed” without providing additional details regarding the event.
This distressing occurrence coincides with the influx of millions of Muslims to Makkah and Madinah for the Umrah pilgrimage during the sacred month of Ramadan.
Notably, in 2017, security personnel thwarted a Saudi man’s attempt to self-immolate at the Kaaba.
2018 witnessed three suicide-related incidents: a Frenchman took his life by leaping from the mosque’s roof in early June, followed by a similar act from a Bangladeshi man shortly thereafter. In August, an Arab individual also committed suicide by jumping from the Grand Mosque.
