Unfamiliar events are one of the most frustrating things for a beat reporter. It’s like asking a lawyer to be a doctor. Irrational and unfair.
A sudden beat shift is difficult. Bad weather can make a reporter lose his cool, even on camera. It’s not simple for a news reporter to cover events that aren’t their specialty.
In the U.S., sports journalist Mark Woodley expressed frustration over covering a blizzard instead of athletic events.
Mark Woodley shared a video of himself getting angrier by the second over his work.
“I usually do sports; everything is canceled here for the next few days. So what better time to ask the sports guy to come in about five hours earlier than he would normally wake up, stand out in the wind and the snow and the cold, and tell other people not to do the same?” Woodley said in a sarcastic tone. Watch it here:
“I’m used to these evening shows that are only 30 minutes long, and generally, on those shows, I am inside. This is a really long show, so tune in for the next couple hours to watch me progressively get crankier and crankier,” Woodley said in another segment.
“Can I go back to my regular job? I’m pretty sure you guys added an extra hour to this hour just because somebody likes torturing me,” he added.
Netizens stated he made a solid argument about why reporters stand outside in the snow when everyone should be indoors to prevent accidents.
