The Interior Ministry has officially confirmed that Mullah Akhtar Mansour was the second person to have been killed in the Noshki drone strike.

According to details, the Interior Ministry said that Mullah Akhtar Mansour’s death from the drone strike could now be confirmed due to his identification. Mansour had been identified due to the DNA tests which pointed him out as the second person killed in the Noshki drone attack.

According to the Interior Ministry, Mullah Akhtar Mansour’s DNA had been obtained from a family member of his.

The Noshki drone strike, which according to US Secretary of State John Kerry, was authorized by US President Barack Obama, soured relations between Pakistan and the United States.

Mullah Akhtar Mansour, the chief of the Taliban, was killed in a drone strike last Saturday on May 21. The attack sparked a protest by Islamabad, who claimed the American drone strike was an attack on its sovereignty.

After the death of Mullah Akhtar Mansour, the Taliban appointed Sheikh Haibtaullah Akhunzada as their new chief. While the Taliban themselves, John Kerry, US President Obama and even Afghanistan’s Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah had confirmed the death of Mansour, Pakistan had refused to confirm the Taliban chief had died till his DNA tests had not been completed
