The federal government has decided to end the subsidy on electricity being provided to K-Electric.

As per government’s commitment with the IMF, National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has increased the power tariffs by Rs.2 to 4 per unit for the domestic consumers living in Karachi.

The power utility ratcheted up 20 to 80 percent power tariffs for domestic consumers in Karachi and ended the benefit of slabs.

The tariffs were raised by Rs.2.09 per unit for the domestic consumers using 201 to 300 units. Similarly, Rs.3.67 was added to the per unit price for the domestic consumers using 301 to 700 units.

The power tariffs were mounted by Rs.2.09 for the consumers using over 700 units.

Moreover, the peak-hour consumers will have to pay additional Rs.4 per unit. Meanwhile, off-peak unit price has been raised by Rs.4.28 per unit.

It should be mentioned here that the basic tariffs of K-Electric were not enhanced ever since October 2013. (Photo News / Samaa Tv)
