In a recent event at the Governor House, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s 12-member interim cabinet was sworn in. The ceremony saw Governor Ghulam Ali administering the oath, attended by the caretaker Chief Minister, Mohammad Azam Khan, among others. The ministers sworn in included names like Syed Masud Shah, Barrister Feroze Jamal Shah Kakakhel, and Dr Najeebullah, to name a few. Dr Riaz Anwar and Dr Sarfaraz Ali Shah have been appointed as advisers to the CM, while Zafarullah Khan will serve as a special assistant.

Background and Profiles of Some Cabinet Members

This change in the cabinet follows a significant shake-up where 19 members from the previous caretaker cabinet tendered their resignations over alleged political involvement. Six others resigned the subsequent day. Caretaker minister Shahid Khattak’s earlier resignation was pivotal, especially after he attended a political gathering, prompting the Election Commission of Pakistan to react strongly.

Some members from the new interim cabinet, such as Masud Shah and retired Justice Qaiser, were also part of the preceding cabinet. Dr Najeebullah, one of the key members, holds a PhD from the University of Cambridge and has a notable history of involvement in national and international energy and education projects.
