The Anti-Terrorism Court has sentenced the 51 accused involved in the May 9 vandalism and arson case in Gujranwala Cantt.
The Anti-Terrorism Court sentenced 51 accused involved in the May 9 case held in Central Jail to 5 years in prison under three sections of terrorism and fined each 10,000 PKR.
Among the accused is Kalimullah Khan, a newly elected MPA from PTI in Gujranwala.
The accused were also sentenced for blocking roads, damaging properties, and gathering mobs, among other charges.
Following the verdict, security at the Central Jail was on high alert, and a heavy police force was deployed. The case of attacks on sensitive installations and arson had been ongoing in jail for three months.
Incident of May 9: Arrest warrants issued for 12 accused, including Ali Amin Gandapur
On May 9, during a PTI protest, attacks were made on sensitive installations. The attackers injured ten police officers, including an SP, and one civilian was killed, while four vehicles were also damaged.
Cantt Police Station registered a case against 23 named individuals and three to four hundred unknown persons, including PTI ticket holders, on the complaint of SHO Mudassir Butt. Police arrested 51 involved suspects.
In this case, the court has also ordered confiscating the properties of several PTI central leaders, including Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Murad Saeed, and Ali Amin Gandapur. Several named leaders are on interim bail from the courts.
