On Imran Khan’s orders, 44 Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) lawmakers withdrew their National Assembly resignations on Monday.
On Twitter, PTI Secretary-General Asad Umar announced that the 44 MNAs whose resignations have yet to be accepted had rescinded their resignations.
“The speaker was emailed,” said the PTI leader. He also listed MNAs who withdrew their resignations.
PTI Senior Vice President Fawad Chaudhry said 45 lawmakers had rescinded their resignations to help the party become opposition and parliamentary party leader.
Chaudhry said the PTI retracted the resignations to remove the “fake” opposition leader and prevent the “Lotay (turncoats)” from voting for Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in the vote of confidence.
Umar and Chaudhry listed different numbers of lawmakers. The former named 44 MNAs and the latter 45 lawmakers who retracted their resignation.
After the announcement, lawmakers arrived at Parliament House but were denied entry.
PTI leader Malik Aamir Dogar said 45 MPs visited Parliament House to meet the NA speaker or secretary. “We’ll visit his residence to meet his staff now that he’s not here,” he said.
PTI MNA Lal Chand Malhi said Khan wants the resignations retracted.
Last week, Pervez Ashraf accepted 70 MNA resignations.
34 resignations were accepted on January 17, and 35 more three days later.
After the speaker resigned, the Election Commission denotified the MNAs.
11 PTI lawmakers resigned last July, and NA Speaker Raja Parvez Ashraf accepted.
PTI Chairman Imran Khan won seven of eight seats in October by-elections.
