A four-day anti-polio campaign will conclude in 28 districts of Balochistan today (Thursday), the health department reported.
In Quetta, the next phase of the vaccination campaign will begin from January 23 till January 26. A target has been set to administer polio drops to 417,000 children below the age of five. 950 teams have been formed for this purpose while the anti-polio campaign has been postponed in Qilla Saifullah, Zhob, Sheran and Loralai due to security reasons.
Pakistan is one of only three countries where polio remains endemic. Attempts to stamp it out have been badly hit by opposition from militants and attacks on immunisation teams that have claimed 68 lives since December 2012. As a result the number of Polio cases have increased in the past two years.
