An earthquake of magnitude 4.7 struck Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, as reported by the National Seismic Monitoring Centre.
The seismic activity was felt across these regions, impacting cities throughout the northwestern province, including Peshawar, Swat, and Charsadda.
The epicentre was identified in southeastern Afghanistan, with a depth measured at 98 kilometres. This seismic event follows a 3.2-magnitude earthquake earlier this month that affected Karachi’s Clifton area, although it caused no casualties or damage.
Seismic activities in Pakistan are frequent due to its location on the boundary between the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates, emphasizing the need for robust disaster preparedness and mitigation strategies.
