A leaked 205-page report initiated by Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah disclosed a loss of Rs 3.22 billion in wheat stocks following the 2022 floods.

The report details how officials from the Sindh Food Department mixed substandard wheat with dirt across 14 districts, drastically compromising the quality and resulting in severe financial losses.

The investigation pointed to the officials’ gross negligence, attributing the mishandling of nearly 379,000 sacks of wheat to insufficient oversight and poor storage conditions. The report outlines the losses by district, with Malir experiencing the highest at Rs1,075.4 million.

Furthermore, the Sindh Food Department has not received the report formally but has committed to taking disciplinary action against the implicated officers, ensuring none are in positions of authority this year.

The department also recognized the need for improved monitoring techniques to prevent such incidents in the future.
