Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has adamantly refused to accept Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Governor Sardar Mehtab Ahmad Khan’s resignation.
According to sources Mehtab had submitted his resignation a few days ago. It is believed the K-P governor took the decision because he plans to contest in the 2018 general elections. As per election rules, public office holders cannot contest for the polls, leaving Mehtab with no choice but to resign.
The K-P governor confirmed the development.Mehtab said he had a meeting with Nawaz and the prime minister refused to accept his resignation.
Mehtab, who is a senior leader of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, was appointed governor of K-P in April 2014 after Shaukatullah Khan submitted his resignation from the post to President Mamnoon Hussain.
