19 Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s interim cabinet members tendered their resignations to Chief Minister Azam Khan due to alleged involvement in politics. The move was preceded by a resignation from caretaker minister, Shahid Khattak on July 24, after he participated in a political gathering. His involvement sparked criticism from the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), which led to his subsequent resignation.
ECP’s Directives and Cabinet’s Response
The ECP, emphasizing the need for impartiality, wrote to CM Khan urging him to dismiss ministers and advisers engaged in political activities. As a result, the caretaker minister for information, Feroze Jamal Shah Kakakhel, confirmed the mass resignations.
Of the remaining cabinet members, three are expected to submit their resignations soon. The CM will forward the resignations to Governor Ghulam Ali, while non-compliant members risk being de-notified.
