At least 56 people, including ten children, lost their lives and several others sustained wounds when their bus met a deadly accident near Sukkur town of Sindh in the early hours of the morning today.

According to rescue and police officials, a Karachi-bound bus carrying passengers from Swat collided head-on with a goods truck near Thehri bypass.

Officials said several people, including women and children, died on the spot as the bus caught fire after the crash.

With the help of locals, police and rescue teams pulled the bodies and injured from the ill-fated bus and shifted them to nearby civil hospitals of Sukkur and Khairpur where doctors received many of the wounded dead.

According to preliminary report, the bus passenger caught fire owing to the gas cylinder. Most of the casualties were caused by the abrupt conflagration.

Cause of the fatal accident is yet to be ascertained, however, eyewitness said fog and bad weather caused the incident.
