The Special Investigation Unit (SIU) claim to have busted a gang allegedly involved in a number of crimes earlier yesterday.

Officials said that the gang comprised at least five members including two women. The gang recently held a Pakistan Navy official hostage on gunpoint and released him after looting cash and other valuables.

SIU chief SP Farooq Awan said that the gang leader, Sagheer, along with his companions Muhammad Mustafa, Muhammad Hassan, Sadia Noor and Uzma Rafiq, was running the gang for the last few years and has been involved in various cases of crime.

The SIU chief said that SIU officials conducted a raid on a tip-off at their hideout in Korangi and arrested them. Weapons were also seized from them. SIU officials said that the gang recently held a Pakistan Navy officer hostage at gunpoint within the jurisdiction of the Artillery Maidan police station and later released him after looting cash and other valuables.
