Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) has announced a peaceful shutter-down strike against the overnight raid of party’s central office by the rangers earlier today.
After a brief emergency meeting, the MQM’s Coordination Committee appealed to people to keep their business activities at a standstill and transport off roads today in protest over the rangers raid at Nine Zero.
As a response to the call most business centers are closed and almost all petrol pumps have been shut.
The party’s main decision-making body said several party leaders including Amir Khan, Abdul Haseeb Dr. Saleem Danish and Arshad Hussain have been arrested, adding many party workers including Ayub Sheikh and Sindh MPA Rehan Zafar have been taken away to an as yet undisclosed location.
The MQM urged upon Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to take notice of the overnight raid and arrests.
Earlier, MQM’s members of assemblies arrived on the spot but, they were denied access to Nine Zero. Standing at Mukka Chowk, the MQM’s parliamentarians and other leaders complained, “Why are we not allowed to go to Nine Zero?”
MQM leader Wasay Jalil said the raid at the party’s headquarters is beyond his comprehension, terming the rangers activity as ‘illegal and unlawful’.
Meanwhile, the MQM also alleged that one of their workers had also been killed due to indiscriminate firing by the rangers near Mukka Chawk.
