Federal Information and Broadcasting Minister Pervaiz Rashid said that Raza Rabbani was nominated as Chairman of the Senate with a consensus between government and opposition parties.

Speaking to media persons in Islamabad earlier today, Rashid said that the Deputy Chairman would be named from Balochistan. “All parties can name their candidates. Our government will extend full support,” he said.

PML-N has accepted the PPP’s mandate to name its candidate for the election of Senate’s Chairman, he said.

“We never said that we would win the elections. We only called for consultation to name a joint candidate,” he clarified.

The information minister said that the new year of Senate was beginning with reconciliation.

Earlier, former President Asif Ali Zardari welcomed the decision of PM to endorse the nominee of the opposition parties Raza Rabbani for the office of Chairman Senate as a triumph of the charter of democracy and victory of the spirit of democratic accommodation and reconciliation.

Asif Ali Zardari also felicitated Raza Rabbani on his unanimous endorsement as Chairman Senate, it added.
