The Sindh provincial cabinet has been shuffled for the second time within one month.
After some ministers expressed concern over the portfolios allotted to them, the cabinet underwent a shuffling earlier yesterday. Changes have been made in the education, irrigation, archives and katchi abadis departments.
The education department has been re-allotted to senior minister Nisar Ahmed Khuhro, who will also continue to serve as the information minister. The archives portfolio has been given to Sharjeel Inam Memon and katchi abadis to the newly appointed Tariq Arain.
A few weeks ago, the portfolio of education department was taken back from Khuhro and allotted to Hazar Khan Bijarani, who refused to take charge of the department due to the presence of the influential education secretary.
Instead of removing the secretary, who happens to be brother-in-law of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) co-chairperson Asif Ali Zardari, the government re-allotted the department to Khuhro who was working as minister for information, irrigation and archives. “Now the irrigation and archives departments have been taken back from Khuhro and have been given to finance minister Murad Ali Shah and Sharjeel Inam Memon respectively,” the CM House spokesperson said, adding that Memon will continue to work as minister for works and services.
No portfolio has been given to Hazar Khan Bijarani. Attempts were made to contact Bijarani, a senior leader of the PPP, but he refused to comment.
It is not clear as yet as to who will run the crucial Information Ministry.
