Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif earlier today said his government believes in the freedom of the press and stressed that the electronic media must play its role in ridding the country of terrorism, sectarianism and extremism.
These comments came after the prime minister’s special advisor Irfan Siddiqui briefed the PM on the new code of conduct for the media.
The prime minister said that the media‘s role in national development and promoting the national interest is an important one. He added that serious efforts need to be invested towards implementing the new code of conduct.
