Law enforcement agencies (LEAs) averted a Taliban plot to launch an attack on Sialkot airport on Wednesday.
According to initial reports, LEAs arrested a suspect, identified as Sikanar Abbas, was planning an attack on Sialkot airport.
The suspect belongs to the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) Mast Gul group. LEAs also recovered explosives, map and weapons from his possession.
On his identification during interrogation, police launched operation to apprehend his handlers and accomplices said to be hiding in Lahore.
It should be noted that in the 90s the self styled ‘major’ Mast Gul was the darling of the Pakistani security establishment and was involved in terrorism in Kashmir. He was also the poster boy for the Jamaat-Islami’s drive to recruit impressionable youth to go and fight in Kashmir.
