Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan denied Friday that his party contacted the army, saying Federal Interior Minister Nisar Ali Khan had revealed that it was in fact the prime minister who urged the army chief to mediate for resolving the prevailing political impasse.
“You can confirm it from a few journalists to whom Chaudhry Nisar issued this statement,” Khan said while talking to media from atop his container.
“General Raheel Sharif knew that I had received a call from his office after which I met him,” the PTI chief said.
The PTI chief said that during his meeting with the army chief, General Raheel told him that he will guarantee a transparent probe into vote fraud.
“I told General Raheel that I don’t trust Nawaz Sharif and his resignation is essential so that vote rigging allegations could be investigated in a transparent manner,” Khan said.
“General Raheel told me that Nawaz Sharif is not willing to resign,” he said.
Khan said that he told him that independent probe into vote fraud is not possible if the prime minister remain in the office of the prime minister, adding it is also against internationally accepted democratic norms.
