An anti-terrorism court (ATC) issued earlier today ‘non-bailable arrest warrants’ for Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain over claims of using derogatory language against the armed forces and Rangers.

The decision was announced by the Justice Raja Shahbab of ATC-1 during the hearing of cases filed against the MQM chief at various police stations in Gilgit-Baltistan.

ATC-1 Gilgit became the first court in the country to issue the non-bailable warrants for the arrest of Altaf, who currently resides in the UK.

The development came just two days after Chief Justice of the Lahore High Court Manzoor Ahmed Malik formed a three-member full bench to take up a petition seeking trial of the MQM chief under treason charges.

Headed by Justice Mazhar Ali Akbar Naqvi, the bench comprises Justice Irum Sajjad Gul and Justice Mazhar Iqbal Sidhu.
