Punjab governor, Chaudhry Muhammed Sarwar has resigned from his position and sent his resignation to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for approval.
According to sources, he will hold a press conference at 2 PM today in which he would disclose the reasons that led him to step down as governor.
Earlier, Pakistan Television (PTV) claimed that President Mamnoon Hussain had directed Punjab governor to submit his resignation last night.
But sources said that the PM Sharif was unhappy over his public statements on Obama’s visit to India. Sarwar in a public statement had said that US president opting not to visit Pakistan was the failure of Islamabad’s foreign policy.
Sarwar on Tuesday at a ceremony of Tehrik Istehkam-i-Pakistan said, “It’s the diplomatic failure of Pakistan that US President Obama visited India and signed all-important civil nuclear deal with it that included some condition even against American and international laws.”
The federal government had requested an explanation from Sarwar, after which the governor handed in his resignation.
