Co-chairman Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Asif Ali Zardari and Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain late yesterday night exchanged congratulations over the unopposed election of senators from both the parties after a seat adjustment deal, Samaa reported.
“In a telephonic meeting late on Sunday both the leaders, whose parties are allies in the provincial government of Sindh vowed seamless political cooperation down the line, letting the bygones be bygones,” sources told the media.
“They also gave their word to each other that the ‘history of conflict’ will not be allowed to repeat itself, no matter what,” sources added.
This senatorial walkover was the result of a seat adjustment pact between the MQM and the PPP, which are, more often than not, at loggerheads despite being coalitionists in the provincial government of Sindh… but jump to make ‘strange bedfellows’ under the doctrine of necessity.
