Police currently hold four suspects in the Zahra murder case, although they have not initiated an investigation into these individuals.
To date, authorities have arrested eight suspects in connection with Zahra’s murder. Four of these individuals, including Zahra’s sister-in-law and her son Qasim, along with two distant relatives from Wazirabad named Shabbir and Azan, are in police custody. The other four suspects have been transferred to jail.
The Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) has stated that the four suspects are not yet under formal investigation despite being in custody. Police are retaining these individuals to gather more details about the case.
Earlier this month, Zahra, a seven-month-pregnant woman from Daska, Punjab, was tragically murdered by her in-laws. The heinous act involved Zahra’s mother-in-law, Sughra Bibi, and her daughter Yasmeen, who killed and then dismembered Zahra’s body. They placed the remains in bags and disposed of them in a canal, attempting to hide their crime by claiming Zahra had eloped.
This brutal crime has stirred nationwide outrage. The culprits went to the extent of severing Zahra’s limbs and burning her head to hinder identification. Under cover of darkness, Sughra moved the remains to the canal while spreading rumors about Zahra’s disappearance.
