Social media platform X announced a pilot experiment designed to enhance its Community Notes system. This initiative focuses on identifying posts that resonate with a variety of viewpoints. The trial involves a group of selected contributors who will rate posts based on their appeal. This effort builds on the platform’s existing fact-checking feature to promote more inclusive dialogue.
X’s Community Notes account has revealed that this experimental feature aims to highlight content that resonates widely, promoting a more inclusive conversation. Selected contributors will evaluate posts that are gaining traction through likes, assessing their appeal from different perspectives. Unlike traditional upvote systems, which can introduce bias, the “bridging algorithm” aims to achieve consensus among users who frequently hold opposing views.
The system is based on Community Notes’ fact-checking, where notes become public only if contributors from diverse backgrounds agree on their accuracy. This trial takes that principle further to identify content that appeals to a wider audience.

Contributors will evaluate posts by explaining what they like or dislike, enabling X to identify ideas that bridge divides. The platform explains, “People often feel the world is divided, yet Community Notes shows people can agree, even on contentious topics.” This experiment aims to foster a shared understanding, enabling feedback to inform future iterations.
Meta has implemented “bridging” strategies to reduce polarisation, shifting away from conventional fact-checking methods. Critics point out that Community Notes has slower response times; however, X is addressing this issue through proactive trials that test new engagement techniques. This experiment aligns with X’s goal of combating misinformation while promoting diverse dialogue.
This initiative has the potential to transform how platforms promote content by prioritising inclusivity rather than fostering echo chambers. Early feedback from users on X’s pilot trial includes positive remarks, with some users stating, “This could unite us!” However, there is also scepticism regarding the execution of the initiative.
