In an rare occurrence, a woman in Karachi gave birth to quintuplets at a local hospital in Karachi earlier today.

The 32-year-old woman hailing from Balochistan delivered the quintuplets at Darul Sehat Hospital.

The two baby boys and three baby girls under observation in incubators, according to the hospital. Three of the babies are in critical condition.

“The babies might stay in incubators for two to four months,” chief medical officer Sharjeel Hussain said.

“The birth of the quintuplets was not only a source of joy for the family, but also brought relief to the doctors who feared for the health of the mother and unborn babies as such pregnancies are high-risk,” a statement from the hospital read.

This is not the first time that five kids have been born at a time. On March 26, a woman from Khyber Agency gave birth to quintuplets in Peshawar.

Bibi Asiya was already a mother of three children and gave birth to the children after a complicated discovery.

Similarly, in December last year, a woman in her 30s gave birth to quintuplets at Civil Hospital, Karachi. Surprisingly, an ultrasound showed four foetuses but the woman gave birth to five children, including a boy.

In yet another startling revelation, a 70-year-old Indian woman gave birth to her first child on Tuesday following two years of IVF treatment at a fertility clinic in the northern state of Haryana.
