The ongoing investigations into the wheat scandal have revealed extensive involvement by 108 officers and government employees from both the federal and Punjab governments.
A confidential report received by the Federal Ministry of the Interior details their engagement in smuggling wheat and other food items. The implicated personnel include directors, deputy directors, assistant commissioners, police officers, numerous food inspectors, clerks, and land record officers.
Journalist Zahid Gishkori’s report further disclosed that these officials are operational across various districts in Punjab. The investigative team has secured a copy of this damning report, prompting the Federal Ministry of the Interior to recommend disciplinary actions against the implicated employees. A comprehensive list of the officers and employees suspected of smuggling has also been forwarded to the Prime Minister’s office.
The report also highlighted that these government workers were aiding wheat and flour smugglers. In response, the Punjab Department of the Interior has initiated actions against these government employees, and details of the offences have been shared with the Chief Secretary of Punjab to support further proceedings.
In a related development, sources have confirmed that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has authorized the suspension of four officers from the Federal Ministry of National Food Security as part of the crackdown on corruption within this vital sector.
