WhatsApp is rolling out new features for its Communities, aiming to enhance member interaction.
Meta, WhatsApp’s parent company, revealed on Wednesday that it has introduced an Events feature and enabled replies in Announcement Groups.
Members can now create events within any group that’s part of a community by using the paper clip icon in the chat field. This update allows for the creation of various events like virtual meet-ups or birthday parties. Members can indicate their attendance directly within the app, and visibility of who will attend is available to all group members.
Additionally, events will be listed on the group’s information page, and attendees will receive notifications as the event date approaches. Initially exclusive to community groups, this feature will be available to all groups in the coming months.
WhatsApp also enhances communication in Announcement Groups, which admins typically use for significant updates and is accessible to all community members. Now, all members can reply to these posts, allowing for direct feedback. To streamline the chat, replies are grouped and can be expanded in a bottom slide view. Notifications for these replies are muted by default to prevent spam.
These updates aim to make WhatsApp communities more engaging and responsive to user needs.
