Former Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Faisal Vawda has labelled the 2024 election results as a pivotal signal for the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz’s supremo Nawaz Sharif, noting any party’s absence of a decisive majority.
In discussions with media outlets on Thursday, following the election, Vawda suggested Nawaz Sharif’s pursuit of a fourth term through coalition support could lead to internal strife, particularly with Asif Ali Zardari’s PPP in the opposition.
Vawda was taken aback by the MQM-P’s unexpected lead in Karachi, calling it a notable surprise. He cautioned that a coalition of the PPP with independent candidates in opposition could destabilize the country within months.
Vawda highlighted independent candidates being courted for support, indicating that the coming days would validate his forecasts. He referenced past political manoeuvres from 1985 as a basis for his predictions.
Despite the PTI’s enduring popularity, Vawda pointed out the scramble among parties to secure alliances with independent candidates, asserting that reputable figures like Salman Akram Raja would maintain their allegiance.
He anticipated a realignment in political affiliations post-election, with well-known individuals siding with the opposition and others who won with PTI’s endorsement moving to support the government. Vawda’s insights underscore the complexities and potential shifts in Pakistan’s political landscape following the elections.
