In Karachi’s Korangi area, a university student tragically lost his life on Monday night during a robbery resistance. The incident occurred in the Allah Wala Town neighbourhood, where the victim, identified as Laraib, a student at a private university, was targeted.
Laraib’s father, Muhammad Hussain, reported that his son had left home for the gym at the time of the incident. He revealed that Laraib was in the process of writing a book, with crucial data stored on his cell phone, which led him to resist the robbers.
Hussain also shared that Laraib was engaged, with his wedding planned for 2025. Shahzaib, Laraib’s brother, mentioned that the book Laraib worked on focused on Basic Accounting. He expressed frustration over the police’s inability to prevent such crimes in the city.
According to police reports, Laraib was confronted by two individuals on his way home from the gym. One of the suspects fired a shot, hitting Laraib near one eye, resulting in a fatal injury. At the scene, police discovered an empty shell from a 30-bore pistol, noting that Laraib’s mobile phone was missing. The investigation is ongoing.
This incident mirrors a similar tragedy in December 2022, where Bilal Nasir, a 21-year-old engineering student at NED University of Engineering and Technology, was also killed in Karachi. Following Bilal’s death, Additional Inspector General of Police Jawed Alam Odho advised Karachi residents against resisting robbers, highlighting the dangers of such confrontations.
