The British High Commission has unveiled modifications to the UK’s immigration system, transitioning to a fully digital format that eliminates the need for physical documents.
The new UK visa system removes the necessity for biometric residence permits (BRPs), passport stickers, and routine stamps.
According to the British High Commission in Pakistan, individuals granted a visa for stays exceeding six months, typically for work or study, will be required to establish a UKVI online account. This account will function as a digital record of their immigration status. Conversely, visas issued for less than six months will not necessitate the creation of a UKVI account.
The Commission emphasizes that the new e-visa process is free, secure, and designed to simplify the travel and immigration experience for Pakistanis travelling to the UK. By digitizing the visa process, it aims to enhance efficiency and security, eliminating the need for paper-based documentation such as stamps and permits.

Travellers are advised not to depart for the UK until they have received their passport and the appropriate visa from the Visa Application Centre (VAC). Updating physical documents on the e-visa will not impact an individual’s immigration status or the terms of their entry or stay in the UK.
Further instructions from the High Commission detail that visa holders must submit their BRP upon arrival in the UK. While BRP cards remain valid until December 31, 2024, their expiration does not influence an individual’s immigration status. These cards should be retained until expiration and used alongside a passport when travelling abroad to verify one’s right to re-enter the UK.
