Twitter has announced that users will soon require verification to use TweetDeck, its popular social media management tool. This policy change, scheduled to be enforced in 30 days, was disclosed in a tweet discussing an enhanced TweetDeck version with new features.
However, whether Twitter intends to impose fees for both the new and legacy TweetDeck versions remains uncertain. The company has yet to comment on this matter.
Previously free of charge, TweetDeck is a favoured tool among businesses and news agencies for its ease of content tracking. Its monetization could significantly enhance Twitter’s revenue, which has seen a slump in advertising income under the ownership of billionaire Elon Musk.
This development closely follows Musk’s announcement of daily post limitations for verified and unverified users, aiming to curb excessive data scraping and system manipulation. The declaration was met with strong resistance from Twitter users and jeopardised the position of the recently appointed CEO, Linda Yaccarino.
Under the new policy, individuals will be charged $8 monthly for account verification, while organizations will incur a $1,000 monthly fee.
