Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has arrived in Pakistan on Wednesday on a two-day state visit on the invitation of President Mamnoon Hussain.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Minister and other members of the federal cabinet. The Chief Ministers of other three provinces were notable absentees.
President Erdogan is accompanied by First Lady Emine Erdogan and a high-level delegation including ministers and senior officials. He is expected to hold meetings and discuss global and regional issues with President Mamnoon Hussain and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
The President of Turkey will address a joint session of parliament on Thursday. He is also scheduled to visit to Lahore where Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will host a dinner in his honour.
This is Erdogan’s fourth state visit to Pakistan. His first visit was on 21 May 2012 when he was the Turkish prime minister, and second on 17 September 2013. He made his first state visit as the Turkish president on 1 August 2015.
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) led by by Imran Khan has decided not to attend the joint session of arliament to be addressed by the visiting Turkish President.
