Rates of all kitchen commodities especially chicken and tomatoes have gone out of the reach of common man in Karachi.
The price of tomatoes has reached to Rs200 per kg while chicken is being sold at up to Rs 280 per kilogram. Rates of vegetables and fruits have also soared, but the price control authorities are seen nowhere.
The prices all groceries have hiked since last Friday in the city, among which the price of tomato reached to Rs200 from Rs40 per kilogram. Citizens are worried about this sudden increase in the prices of groceries and other daily-use items.
The price control team of Karachi Commissioner is limited to issuing press releases, instead of taking steps to control the sudden increase in prices of groceries.
Citizen complain that there is no any effective government price list for sellers of vegetables, fruits, chicken, beef and mutton, adding the profiteer themselves have increased the prices manifolds.
They feel that the government goes paralyzed before Eid and every sort of price hike from the kitchen items to bus fares are braved by the citizens. They complain that police and district administration people are not playing their role to save consumers from exploitation of hoarders and profiteers. They say in fact the holy month of Ramazan is the month of exploitation of consumers in Pakistan instead of facilitating them. (PPI)
