Two policemen and an officer were martyred in an exchange of gunfire with terrorists who attacked a Peshawar police station overnight.
The terrorists assaulted the Sarband police station in the city’s suburbs at night with hand grenades and sniper rifles equipped with night vision thermal goggles.
According to SSP Operations, terrorists attacked police stations in two to three directions. He stated that between six and eight terrorists were responsible for the incident. He stated that at least 12 to 14 police officers were present at the police station during the attack. However, DSP Badaber Sardar Hussain and his two guards were martyred in the attack.
The SSP Operations reported that terrorists threw five hand grenades into the police station’s compound. He stated that four of the grenades were neutralized while one exploded.
According to the police officer, the terrorists escaped following the attack. He stated that the search effort had been suspended and would resume locating the attackers during the day.
The police repulsed the terrorists about two hours after their midnight onslaught.
Police contingents came to the scene following the report of the terrorist incident. Following the assault, the entire area was closed off, according to a police spokesperson. Additionally, police contingents and armored personnel vehicles raced to the volatile area.
According to CCPO Ijaz Khan, DSP Sardar Hussain rushed to the police station after the assault. He left his car near Shahabkhel and left for the Sarband police station on foot. However, they were targeted by sniper fire from terrorists.
The DSP and his two gunmen, Irshad and Jehanab, perished on the spot. They all got head and body wounds from gunfire.
Authorities began searching the area surrounding the Sarband police station for terrorists after transferring the bodies to a hospital. However, there have been no reports of terrorist arrests or killings.
