Lahore’s theatre enthusiasts can look forward to the staging of ‘The White Plague,’ a satirical play by Czech author Karel Capek from the 1930s.
It is the Urdu adaptation, which delves into populist politics, power, and warmongering. Set before the Second World War, it shows how populist leaders influenced public opinion for their aggressive agendas.
Directed by Meher Jafferi, the play honours Zia Mohyeddin’s contributions to young theatre practitioners at the National Academy of Performing Arts (NAPA).
The show will run at Lahore’s Al Hamra Hall from September 4 to 8, lasting two hours.
During a Monday press conference at the venue, Jafferi and her team highlighted that ‘The White Plague’ criticizes forces promoting hostility and aims to envision a peaceful world.
The cast includes Kashif Hussain as Dr. Galen, Fawad Khan as Dr. Sigelius, Saad Zameer as The Marshal, and Samhan Ghazi as Seth Sahab, among others.
