As a result of the medical staff’s strike at government hospitals in Sindh, patients remain stranded. At the same time, OPDs and operation theatres stay closed, limiting the public’s access to healthcare and compounding their pain.
As a result of the strike, the province’s largest public hospital in Karachi, the Civil Hospital, is desolate, as are its operating rooms.
As a result of the refusal of the hospital’s janitorial personnel to perform their duties, a mountain of waste has accumulated. In addition, In addition, Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC), National Institute of Child Health (NICH), Lyari General Hospital, and other government medical facilities also have poor sanitation.
Karachi’s largest outpatient departments have been closed for many days, forcing poor patients and their families to seek treatment at costly private hospitals.
In other places, including Hyderabad, Nawabshah, Larkana, and Jacobabad, where hospital medical staff continue to strike, people flee to private hospitals, medical centers, and clinics.
It should be mentioned that, on behalf of the Grand Health Alliance, protests for the abolition of health risk allowance are occurring in all government hospitals in Sindh.
Young physicians, nurses, paramedical employees, and sanitation workers are holding demonstrations. The protesters intend to continue their strike until their demands are met.
Shahid Iqbal, a leader in nursing, stated that the whole government medical staff in Sindh has been protesting for the past 25 days and has not been performing any tasks other than emergency care. Iqbal demanded that a health risk allowance be provided.
In the meantime, patients have asked that the striking medical professionals terminate their strike and have been treated at all provincial government hospitals.
