The ArtScene Gallery in Karachi is currently playing host to the works of Iranian artist Dr Mohsen Keiany. His style is post-modernist and he is inspired by the poetic works of Hafiz Shirazi.
The exhibition, titled ‘Peer-e-Meikadeh’, is actually a visualization of the poetic journey of Hafiz.
As the artist puts it, it is all about love and its infinite nature. The paintings, he says, are supposed to be celebrating the poetic journey of Hafiz Shirazi, a disciple of universal love.
“My paintings depict that endless love,” he says. “My art is my cultural identity. My culture is my dignity and it is my main source of inspiration.”
Peer-e-Meikadeh, or the tavern keeper in Persian literature, has long been a symbol of the perfect spiritual man, commonly referred to as the dervish.
