Multiple Pakistani social media accounts assert that the new medicine Tzield may cure and prevent diabetes for three years. The assertion is false.
An individual on Facebook named ‘Shahid Magsi’ claimed that a revolutionary new medication will prevent diabetes for three years.
“Teplizumab injection, another gift of science to humanity, eliminates diabetes for three years,” a Facebook user commented.
A YouTube video claimed that it no longer matters how much sugar a person consumes because they will not get diabetes owing to a new medication.
The medicine Tzield neither cures nor prevents diabetes; rather, it delays the onset of type 1 diabetes by approximately two years.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) of the United States authorized this medication on November 17, following clinical testing.
A press issued by the FDA stated.“Today, the US Food and Drug Administration approved Tzield injection to delay the onset of stage 3 type 1 diabetes in adults and pediatric patients eight years and older who currently have stage 2 type 1 diabetes,”
Type 1 diabetes is a disease that happens when the immune system assaults and destroys the cells that produce insulin, and it is typically diagnosed in children and young people, according to the statement.
According to the FDA, Tzield must be taken intravenously once daily for 14 consecutive days to prevent progression from stage 2 to stage 3 diabetes.
