The Supreme Court has ordered to release of the suspect who assaulted former president Pervez Musharraf.
A three-member panel headed by Justice Sardar Tariq Masood heard the matter of Rana Tanveer’s non-release even though he has completed his sentence.
Hashmat Habib, the petitioner’s lawyer, claimed his client has completed his term but is still being held.
Habib argued that Tanveer was sentenced to life imprisonment for 14 years, and he has been in prison for over 20.
The top court rejected the federal and Punjab governments’ appeals against Tanveer’s release and ordered his freedom.
Tanveer was arrested on December 31, 2003, in the Rawalpindi pump assault case and convicted to life in prison in 2005.
