The sports betting world has recently intensified dramatically, ignited by a feud between rising stars Lucy Burdge and Taylor Mathis. What started as a novel idea analyzing sports bets during a walk—has escalated into a fierce social media battle involving accusations of content theft.
Lucy Burdge, a well-known sports betting host for Audacy, accuses fellow influencer Taylor Mathis of copying her “walking bets” concept. This method involves Burdge explaining her betting picks while walking.
The dispute became public on X (formerly Twitter) when Burdge reacted to a Barstool Sports clip featuring Mathis. Mathis had commented that her walking bets videos were gaining traction, to which Burdge responded, calling Mathis’s videos a direct copy of her own.
The conflict has split social media users. One user on X accused Mathis of being a fraud, a claim Burdge supported by stating, “Had to. Enough is enough.”
Blindsided by these accusations, Mathis, who has substantial social media followings, expressed her dismay over being publicly criticized by another woman in the industry. She defended herself on X, asserting her support for Burdge’s content and denying any intention of claiming the walking bets idea as her own.
Despite contemplating ending her walking bets videos due to the drama, Mathis quickly resumed her usual activities. She released a new video sharing her top MLB bets for the day, remarking, “I started this morning a little down in the dumps,” but concluding, “I’m just going to be me, gonna be myself, and do my thing.”
Tensions remain high, and it is uncertain if this conflict will soon de-escalate. Burdge and Mathis are firmly standing their ground, each determined to continue their work in sports betting.
