A young Pakistani researcher, Anthony Shoukat, from Shaukat Khanum Memorial Hospital, originally from Lahore, was tragically killed in Porto, Portugal, during a robbery resistance.
Initial reports suggest the victim, identified as Anthony Shoukat, was in Portugal working on a research project for Shaukat Khanum Memorial Hospital. His family, deeply distressed by the incident, has urgently requested government assistance to repatriate his body and ensure that justice is served against the perpetrators.
Anthony, who had completed his master’s degree in Sweden and his PhD in Germany, was well-regarded in the academic community.
This incident echoes a similar tragedy that occurred recently in March, when Fahimuddin, a Pakistani-German from Karachi’s Azizabad neighbourhood who had settled in Germany, was killed in a knife attack in Ulm city. The attack, which targeted his family, began with his wife and daughters and ended fatally for Fahimuddin. The assailant is currently alive and receiving medical treatment.
Fahimuddin’s death has left his neighbours and friends in mourning, recalling the many memorable moments they shared. His wife and daughters are in critical condition, although two daughters managed to escape by hiding.
