In collaboration with the World Bank, the Sindh government has announced plans to offer complete solar systems to the public at an affordable price of Rs 7,000.
This initiative aims to address energy challenges and provide sustainable electricity solutions to households across the province.
Under this scheme, 200,000 households in Sindh, including 50,000 in Karachi, will access complete solar systems at the nominal cost of Rs 7,000. Each system will power a fan and three LED bulbs, providing essential lighting and ventilation.
The Sindh director of alternative energy revealed that 6,656 solar systems would be distributed in each district, totalling a substantial distribution effort. Once purchasing is complete, the project will commence in October. Each package will include solar panels, charge controllers, and batteries.
Funded by the World Bank with $32 million allocated, there are possibilities for future expansion.
Sindh already generates 400MW of electricity from solar energy, demonstrating its commitment to sustainable energy sources.
Households consuming up to 100 units of electricity per month will be eligible for free solar systems. The government will cover all expenses, including the cost and installation.
