The Sikh Community in Peshawar continues its tradition of arranging Iftari during Ramadan.

The Sikh community in Peshawar is known for its generosity and compassion, especially during the holy month of Ramazan. For many years, the Sikhs in the Mohalla Jogan Shah area of the walled city have been arranging iftari for the poor and needy, a tradition that has become a staple of their religious obligations.

Feeding the Poor: An Obligation in the Sikh Religion

In the Sikh religion, feeding the poor is considered an essential duty, and during Ramazan, the Sikh community in Peshawar takes this duty to the next level. They arrange Iftari for those less fortunate, providing them with a meal to break their fast during this holy month.

A Month-Long Effort by Different Sikh Families

Different Sikh families are responsible for arranging iftar in the Mohalla Jogan Shah area and taking turns preparing and distributing the food. This ensures that the iftar tradition continues throughout the month, providing sustenance and comfort to those most in need.

Sikh Traders’ Generosity During Ramazan

The Sikh traders in Peshawar are also known for their generosity during Ramazan. Besides arranging iftari for the poor, they also announce special discounts in their shops and donate money to needy people. This is a reminder of the importance of helping others and spreading kindness, especially during the holy month.

A Strange but Pleasant Experience for the Fasting Locals

For the fasting locals, gathering around long plastic mats spread out by the Sikhs to serve food is a strange but pleasant experience. It is a unique display of unity and generosity, bringing people of different religions together in peace and harmony.

Sikh Youth Volunteering to Arrange Iftari

This year, the Sikh community in Peshawar has taken its efforts to the next level. Jatinder Singh, the Chairman of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chapter of the National Peace Council for Interfaith Harmony, informs that within four days of Ramazan, they have already distributed food items among 100 deserving Muslim families. In addition to providing food packets, Sikh youth have volunteered to arrange iftar for the needy.

Essential Items in Each Ration Pack

Each ration pack includes essential items, including cooking oil, rice, pulses, chickpea, beans, sugar, and tea. This ensures that the families receiving the food can make a complete meal, providing them with the necessary sustenance and nutrition to break their fast.

In conclusion, the tradition of arranging iftar by the Sikh community in Peshawar is a beautiful display of compassion and generosity. It brings people of different religions together and serves as a reminder of the importance of helping others and spreading kindness, especially during the holy month of Ramazan.
